Meet Heather

Hi, I'm Heather, I am a massage therapist and owner of Heather Bain Massage Lagos.  I help people to find balance through massage and body work therapies to achieve a better understanding of their body, and their physical and emotional health to create an improved sense of health and well-being.

I moved to Portugal almost 12 years ago after leaving Scotland for what I thought was a temporary period of time.  After falling in love with Lagos and becoming involved in the tourism industry running surf and wellness retreats, I eventually discovered massage and began my journey in providing therapies. Prior to leaving Scotland I was a social worker, working closely with people experiencing crisis and difficulties with their mental health.  It was during this time I developed an interest in the relationship between stress and physical health, and the impact of chronic stress and trauma on all aspects of our well being. 

My goal is to help you to not only feel better physically, but to identify and understand the impact of lifestyle and stress on their bodies, to work together to alleviate these symptoms and learn how to take care of their health and wellbeing. 

If you are struggling with ongoing tension, stress related physical and/or emotional symptoms or significant life changes, I would love to help you feel better and achieve positive results, through looking at your day to day activity, posture, and other lifestyle factors which may be impacting on your body to help you feel more relaxed, and stronger physically and emotionally.

I am also a qualified pre and post-natural massage therapist, and another special interest of mine is supporting people during and after pregnancy at this time of transition. 

I hold qualifications in Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release and pregnancy massage therapies, skincare facial therapy, and am a Hypnobirthing and birth trauma recovery practitioner. I use a range of techniques in our massage sessions depending on what you tell me about your needs, what I observe, and what I feel during the treatment. 

When I am not treating clients, I will most likely be pursuing my other passion; spending time with my misfit crew of rescue dogs who are just the best…!
